ABOUT HATCHET RIDGE WIND PROJECT

HATCHET RIDGE WIND PROJECT

The proposed Hatchet Ridge Wind project would be located approximately seven miles west of Burney on a portion of Hatchet Mountain.  The project will be constructed along a 6.5 mile corridor on Hatchet Ridge on land owned by Sierra Pacific Industries and Fruit Growers, Inc. It will have a final permanent footprint of 73 acres.

The project would generate approximately 102 megawatts (MW) of power. That will produce enough clean, renewable electricity to power over approximately 35,000 homes.

The project will generate an estimated total of $20.8 million in property tax payments over the first 25 years of the project, including $5.5 million to the Shasta County General Fund. During the first year the project will be one of the biggest taxpayers in Shasta County.  Some of these funds are earmarked for local entities, including Mayers Memorial Hospital in Fall River Mills, Burney’s Cemetery District, and Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2009. The expected life of the project is 25 years, but could continue in operation indefinitely.
